After the jump you will see the trailer to The Dark Knight. Hurry up and check it out before Warner Bros. takes it down!

I Am Legend Takes #1

December 15, 2007

Warner Brothers got a lot more than they asked for this holiday season! The studios hoped to make $50 million on their newest film, and beat their approximations by almost $30 million!! (plus the weekend isn’t over and this is only the movies debut weekend!!!) On top of this being actor Will Smith’s opening record, I Am Legend now holds the greatest December movie opening ever! Take that bad reviews!

Coming in 2nd place is the animated film Alvin and The Chipmunks making about $40 million. My guilty secret is that I really, really want to see it.

Review: I Am Legend

December 15, 2007

Have you ever doubted something so much that you really just didn’t feel like you’d like it at all? Well you and me both. I went into I Am Legend with reservations. The previews really didn’t entice me and I didn’t think that it would be anything more than just a random kill zombies movie, like Resident Evil or the newer Dawn Of The Dead flicks. I didn’t have any good feelings going into the movie. Boy was I wrong.

The movie starts off with a news report on NY NBC News. It’s 2009 and apparently a cure for cancer has been found (rejoice!). That’s really amazing, right? Wrong. Flash forward to 2012 where Doctor Robert Neville (Will Smith) is hunting deer in New York City with his trusty dog Sam. The city is desolate which sets up for the rest of the movie, and it gives us a taste of what Robert has been going through for three years.

The movie works on two tiers: past and present. Periodically throughout the movie there flashbacks to a night in 2009 when New York was quarrantined. I’ll cover the flashbacks right now, but they happen throughout the movie. They begin with Robert, his wife, dog Sam and daughter Marley leaving their home and heading for the South Street Seaport to evacuate NYC, because in ten minutes it will be quarrantined and all hope will be lost. Luckily Marley and Mrs. Neville make it onto a helicopter and are able to leave, but Robert decides to stay behind. He says that there are two weeks before the cancer cure (aka virus) will be widespread (it became airborn) and all hope will be lost. Robert isn’t worried about being affected because he’s part of the .02 percent of the world that is unaffected by the virus. As the helicopter takes off Marley gives Robert their puppy Sam to “protect” her father, and with that the door closes and the copter takes off. Just then the airstrike comes in to quarrantine Manhattan. As debri flies it sends a nearby helicopter into a tailspin, and it unfourtunately hits the copter that Marley and Mrs. Neville are in. They are not seen again.

So that’s the last time Robert saw his family. Since then he’s been living in the same home with Sam. He has a daily routine that he likes to do. He gets up, eats breakfast, works out, goes exploring the city (sometimes picking up a DVD for later) and then he comes home to secure him and Sam in for a long night. His house is pretty much a fortress. It has a lab in the basement and every part of the house is sealed off with steel baracades. Cool, huh?

Without giving too much away I’ll say that Robert has been doing experiments on mice to find the cure and he comes across something that seems to work. Over a fairly short period of time his world comes crashing down though and eventually he leaves his legend on the world. I won’t get into the rest of the movie because I don’t want to ruin it for you. I will give you the gist of it from here on out.

Will Smith gives a brilliant performance of Robert Neville. You can see the sincere emotions in his eyes, and you feel for the guy. He’s lost everything and he realizes it’s man’s fault. You can see a broken man in Smith, he has lost it all and has no hope left. He wanted to save everyone but he simply couldn’t, and it eats him up inside.

I’ll just tell you all to go see the movie, it’s excellent. If you’re like me you’d expect just another action packed zombie (well vampire) flick but it’s much more than that. There is a heart there, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you shed a tear or two. The action has purpose, and the story never slows down or goes too fast. The third act is so action packed, yet so heart warming.

I Am Legend is a must see movie. Best zombie-esque/apocolypse movie in years.

Good News Sex and The City Fans!

December 14, 2007

With the movie coming out in Spring 2008, Sex and the City fans have one last chance to say good bye to Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte, right?

WRONG! Producers have so much confidence that the first movie will be such a success, that they are already creating a script for the sequel! In fact, they are planning to make the hit show a TRILOGY!

Personally, I believe they are getting a little ahead of themselves..lets take it a cosmo movie at a time!

Here is the trailer for the movie :

enjoy!

First Three Minutes Of I Am Legend

December 14, 2007

Although it’s going to be released today you can see the first three minutes of I Am Legend courtesy of Yahoo. The scene is pretty much what you’ve seen in the trailers. You have the deer (antelope?) running through New York City as they are being chased by Robert Neville (Will Smith) in his Mustang. Must be nice to be able to drive in NYC like that, with perfect freedom to speed.

Anyway I’m a bit disapointed by this, well actually not disapointed but more just well…I’m not sure how I feel. I would be disapointed if I actually thought the movie would be decent, but it’s a remake of a remake of an adaptation of a book. I didn’t have high hopes for I Am Legend ever since I started seeing some footage. The premise is really good, and the book is a great read, but this adaptation seems to be focusing on making a scary movie with flash and glamour…and failing terribly. For an example just watch the first three minutes and look at the “wildlife.” I could accept average CGI in an average movie, but Warner Bros. has been pushing this movie so hard. Why can’t they just make everything look more believable? How about real people in make up, not CGI?

Regardless of my hesitations I will probably be going to see the flick tonight. I want to go see it in IMAX to catch the first few minutes of The Dark Knight, but the nearest IMAX theater that’s playing I Am Legend is in Atlantic City which is two hours away. So I’ll probably just catch it at my local multiplex and post a review later if I go see it. If you go see it you should head over to the forums and discuss it.

The First 5 Minutes of AvP: Requiem

December 12, 2007

 AvP 2

Yesterday we showed you some new images from Alien vs. Predator Requiem, well today comes the first five minutes of the film. Courtesy of Yahoo.

Let me be the first to say “Wow!” AvP 2 looks incredible, especially compared to the last movie. The first five minutes truly show you exactly what’s going on. Did anyone else have a serious geekgasm when the Alien popped out of the Predator on the table, or when the Alien stopped the Predator from triggering his nuclear bomb? I’m glad the makers of the flick don’t have any reservations about killing kids, since that seems to be a taboo in the film industry in horror movies. Kids seem to be off limits, but in AvP 2 they kill off a kid in the first five minutes. Well they Alien-ate him, but he’s going to die anyway.

The First 10 Minutes of Walk Hard

December 12, 2007

Walk Hard

Since the blog has been on somewhat of a hiatus you probably don’t know that Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is probably one of my favorite new movies coming out. I love Judd Apatow’s work (can this guy ever fail?) and I think John C. Reilly is an amazing comedian. Anyway the first ten minutes of Walk Hard has been released, so go check it out.

New Stills From AvP: Requiem

December 11, 2007

   AvP

Coming straight from Yahoo! are some new stills from Alien vs. Predator 2: Requiem. There is a somewhat big spoiler in the pics, and that spoiler is that apparently the Predator’s homeworld is show in the movie. The homeworld seems to be very abstract and high tech, which is basically how I’d expect their homeworld to look. I wonder what kind of defense mechanisms there are.

With every new trailer and still I see of this movie I love it a bit more. I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing though, I could just be getting myself up for a let down. After all, Alien vs. Predator was a terrible movie. This movie looks like it’s a faithful cross between the franchises, but I’m not sure what to believe yet. I guess we’ll find out when it’s released later this year.

Jackass Number 3 Announced!

September 27, 2007

Wee Man Next To A Wee Pony

Today on the Howard Stern show Steve-O let it slip that there will be a third Jackass film coming! No, not the Jackass 2.5 DVD release that footage has been released for. I’m talking about Jackass 3, for theaters. Check out what he said:

“I was told to rest up for Jackass 3 which will start shooting in January,”

I’m assuming we’ll see a Fall release date for this if it is being made. I don’t know how trustworthy Steve-O is since it seems like he is constantly high now a days. I’d love to see the Jackass guys go for a third movie, but I doubt it will go too far. My predictions are Bam doesn’t come back, someone dies, Steve-O never shows up, and it just won’t be the same.

Synopsis For Snuff, The New Book By Chuck Palahniuk

August 8, 2007

RantComing from MTV we get some Chuck P. news. He’ll be having a cameo in the upcoming movie adaptation of “Choke”, the shoot for the movie was 25 days, and the budget was between 3 and 4 million dollars. The news I’m more excited about is the synopsis for his new book, Snuff. Here it is:

“It’s about the shooting one of the worlds largest [pornographic] movies. It’s basically about three men waiting in the green room among 600 men. Over the course of the first act you learn that this actress plans to die during the production and that most likely one of these three men was a child she conceived and put up for adoption. He’s been trying to contact her for years. She’s never acknowledged him and he’s so desperate he’s shown up for this casting call to try to rescue her before she dies.”

Wow. It’s certainly what I’d expect from him, after all he had a boys intenstens[sic] sucked out of him while he masturbated on the bottom of a pool…so yeah he is twisted. I can only see one thing coming out of Snuff and that’s incest. I’m definitely going to pick it up, especially since it’s supposedly a second story in a sci-fi trilogy, with Rant being the first book.
