Weekend Box Office: The Simpsons Movie Dominates

While I don’t normally cover the weekend box office totals, I felt that I should this time with The Simpsons Movie being something I have already put in my top 5 all favorite movies. The Simpsons Movie did amazingly well, even surpassing the $50 million projected outcome of it’s opening weekend. The film raked in a very impressive $71.9 million. Compared to it’s competition, The Simpsons Movie did amazingly well.

In a far behind second came I Know Pronounce You Chuck And Larry with $19.1 million. Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix came in third with $17.1 million. In comparison to other animated films The Simpsons Movie did great. South Park Bigger Longer And Uncut (1998) only made $11.3 million in it’s opening weekend, Cars (2006) only made $60.1 million in it’s opening weekend, and even the powerhouse Toy Story (1995) made only $29.1 million. So I’d say The Simpsons Movie did really well, and as Maggie says at the end of the film, you can probably expect a sequel very soon.
